Work it out ;)

Sunday I allowed myself a little more food because of our concert, and I had relatives coming over here, so treated ourselves with a little something. Still weighed less than usual Monday morning! Haha.

Sunday I worked a little strength, focusing on abdominal muscles. Pushed it a little, but since I am doing this swimming which gives the whole body a good workout, I try not to work my arms too hard, they are getting tired a little faster these days because of the swimming.

Monday I went swimming with Tessa, the other girl from my school in Hamar! We went swimming for quite some time. Think we did about 1 mile, gonna make sure I count my laps next time!

Diet working well again, think today was a great day, except from a little Halloween candy at the en dof the day, and Tues will be bad.... But doing yoga and some strength!!

Saturday: I went swimming today too!
It was hard to talk myself into doing it after staying up till 6am and getting up at 1pm, yikes, but I did it!! :D But because i didn't wear my contacts, I couldn't see the clock down there so i have no idea exactly how I was in the water. But I know I left the appartment at 2.10, then checked my watch in the locker after getting dressed and it was 3.11, so I think I was in about 20-30minutes.

This work out was SOOO noce though, had the pool to myself, started out easy working up a good rhtyhm, concetrating on technique, and i could laready feel that it was a liiittle better than last time. My knee didn't click at all untill I started speeding up, but using a good technoque made it go away. And it wasn't as bad as last time. So it's all good!

Friday was my day off, my body was a little tired after not too much sleep, plus it was a pretty packed day. Had pizza and oreo's with the choir at our retreat (this is why this became my resting day this week), and some choclaty stuff during the evening/night, but coul dhave eaten more if I didn't stop myself, hehe. But still not too good stuff... Getting there though! :D

Weights

Well, technically it's not lifting weights, it's using machines to lift weights, hehe... Anyway, that was what was my plan yesterday.

- Warmed up with 5 min on this orbitrek-thing-machine or whatever they are called. En..... en......n yeah, something!
- Moved on to the machines, starting with that bar you pull down while sitting. Did a number of those arm strenghtening machines.
- Did a little bit of back stuff too
- Used the onlly machine in THAT gym for abdomenals, then did the rest of abdomanel exercises on the floor, just trying to vary the exercises. Felt the burn pretty good, but I'm still not very sore today, so can work that even harder.
- Also did 30 knee-pushups just to work the arms a little more.
- Finished with going for a speedy fast walk for 10min. Try walking at the speed of 4.7 mph (7,5km/t), that'll get you sweating for sure!

My but for some reason is sore today, but it's all good, it's good to feel it! :) Not sure what I'm gonna do to exercise today... Could go swimming, so think I'll just do that. :)

Diet is going good, but had a little cookie last night.. :/ And we have a pizza thing tonight, but I'm gonna be strong and make myself a salad and bring that instead of eating the pizza!! :D
Lara Croft, here I come! :P

Swimming!

Since I started getting stiff calves I thought about starting swimming. After advice from friends I decided to go for it.
So yesterday I spent half an hour in the swimmingpool!

Tried to do different styles of swimming, but since I haven't been swimming seriously for quite some time, I had enough with normal breastswimming! Plus there were people in the pool making waves which made it hard doing anything on my back without almost drowning, hehe. But I did half an hour!
Noticed a little clic in my right knee, but it went away when I concentrated on my technique instead of just launching out. Hopefully it'll go away when I get going!

Gonna go for weights today, will probably post about that tomorrow :)

Stepping up

Although I wasn't planning on it, I went to the gym last night too! Some freidns was going, so I just tagged along.
And this Lara Croft thing for halloween is a GREAT motivator!!!! I keep a picture of her as a background on my desktop just to remind myself of what I'm supposed to look like in a week from today, hehe.

- Managed to make myself dinner with salmon and rice :D

- Did the running tabata (started out with a fast walk, then a little jog, then the tabata, then walk and a jog after that before slowing down.) All together 25min and 2.4 miles.

- Since I need muscles for Lara (and myself really) I used some of the weightmachines, focusing on back and shoulders, and a little arm action too. did mostly 10x2 on each machine as I am very week in those muscles that are not included when doing pushups. Felt good though!

When I came home I ate a banana and a boiled egg (without the yolk). Neef to start thinking more about what I eat when, especially before and after the workouts.

Tabata here I come!

A friend of mine have been telling me about this certain type of exercising called "tabata". I read some more about it in a coupe of articles, and thought I'd give it a try!
Just to clearify: Tabata is a way of building up your exercise; you work as HARD as you can for 20sec, then rest for 10sec, then repeat this 7 times, which makes the while thing last 4min. (Check THIS out) So Sunday night I went for it!

- I started ut with a warm up, walking fast for 5min, then jogging noramally for 5min. My knee that I bumped into my deks hurt a little.... :S

- Then I moved on to tabata running style, and oh my, my lounges were burning...!! Now, I had to do this inside cause outside is freaking cold and I don't wanna run alone outside at 11pm around here. So I did it a the treadmill, giving me the oppotunity to time it exact, but limiting my running somewhat I think. Ran at a speed of 9.3 at max, and I could definitely have gone faster, but in the end I think it was good i didn't, hoho....

- Stretched a little before moving on to Tabata Burpees, which is THIS exercise. I didn't have a timer for this, so I had to count the oldfashioned way (1001, 1002, 1003 etc). Kind of hard when this was my first time, so breathing, doing the exercise, counting time and keeping track of how many burpees and rounds I had done was kind of hard, haha.
It was hillarious in some ways, as I only managed to do 2 reps the second round, hahahaha. Got better tohugh. I was pretty shaky when I was done - but I need a place with a higher ceiling!

- Did some situps stuff, my 8x6 thing and the "launcher" and some other stuff. I was half dead so didn't think too much about how many reps and stuff, hehe. Tried some new stuff too.

- Ended it all with a nice and easy stretch! It was a good workout as far as I'm concerned, I haven't been that tired in a long time!
Feeling good :D

Uh-oh....

Yesterday me and a friend had to go out to eat dinner because DS was closed, and that kind of blew my good plan for this week.
I had a Tunasandwich with a simple salad on the side - not too unhealthy. It came as two sandwiches, and I put one of them in a doggybag, so I managed to keep the meal smaller than it would have been.
But then we decided to get dessert, and they had a FAB looking choclate cake thing there. So I got that, and the pieces are of course HUGE. So I ate a little over half and put the rest in a doggybag. I got the rest of this meal later on in the evening.

Then we went out, and after that they wanted to go to Taco Bell. At first I didn't want to get anything, but then I found out that was my first time ever in Taco Bell, so I got the smallest meal they had, haha.
And then I got a Choco Taco, an icecream thingy with choclate stuff (hence the name of it, hehe), and then another half of those. Uh-oh....
But because i kept all my meals small I still didn't weigh too much this morning! So keep up the small-meal thing! :D

When I came back home I stretched and did my strength-traning (that's actually what they call it here, haha), so I got my stuff done too! :) So all in all I guess it could have been worse!

Stiff calves

I went jogging for half an hour yesterday, 2.87 miles (=4.6km)!
Did intervals a little, changing the speed from time to time, every 5min or so I think. THen I stretched for at least half an hour, and I am definitely getting more flexible each day now, as long as i remember to stretch every day. Great feeling!

But one thing: after I started jogging here (in the US) I've been feeling like my calves are getting very stiff, they feel tense all the time, even when I'm not working out. I feel it when I walk, and sometimes even when I'm just sitting still.
So last night I massaged it, and I'm gonna keep doing that every night. It feels a little better already, so hopefully it's working!
I don't want to have to stop running because my calves can't take the base/foundation I am running on... This is usually a treadmill, but i go outside sometimes, and there there is concrete all the way, bad stuff. Don't like it. Hopefully my running technique will improve and my body will adapt and feel better about it after a while. But I miss my backyard forest...!

And was a good girl last night - managed to have a smaller dinner with the salad I usually have, then some vegetables and rice. Dropped dessert (haven't ever actually started having dessert, but you know) and this morning I weighed 2pounds less than I have this past week, so good stuff :)

Right

As if I would have time to keep this up, hehe.

Lately I have just done the same program basically, just need to get into a good rhythm before getting any better. And so far it's working out pretty good. :)

My main "problem" right now is that I tend to eat a really big dinner compared to what I should, which holds me back from loosing that fat that I want to get rid of! I just need to keep it in mind, and get used to how big portions i get for my meals, and it'll be fine. It's not like I'm starving, it's just a matter of remembering the fact that I need less than what I usually go for!

Today I did better, got my little salad with lettuce, raw carrots, turkeybites, sunflower seeds and some breadcrutons. Usually I have eggs too, but they were out today. Then I grab a plate with a little rice and some vegetables, and maybe some meat if they have anything sensible that's not been bathed in grease, hehe. I never use dressing, and I just started taking away the salt on the vegetables too, and it's not too bad! :)

Still working on how I should do my meals every day, as my schedule varies from day to day, it's getting hard to keep that 2-hour thing up... So I think I will eat a bigger breakfast, then have lunch when I get back from classes, then try to even it more out again.
Yup!

Monday workout

I guess I'll have to start writing here every day untill I have figure some smart stuff out, hehe. Today was my muscle enhancement day, hihi. Here's what I did:

- 40 pushups on knees, 10 on the bed focusing on triceps
- 30 reps outter thighs, 15 on the butt ;)
- 3 different exercises, in all 70 reps on back
- 15x3 "launchers" as I'm calling them, ask if you wanna know, hehe. Then my 8x5 thingy, then 50 reps on 3 other exercises (4x5 + 15 out low + 15 up)

I do all this stuff without machines or any "tools" so far, gonna try to use the machines over at the gym more, but don't really have time to get dressed and go over there with all this homework so far. Needs some planning I guess.

I also wonder - is it better to warm up before lifting/doing this stuff? Like go for a little jog or something? I might change my routines a little in that case.
Right now i do cardio every other day, and "lifting" the other days in between, with one resting day per week. When I get really into it (if I ever do, hehe) I'll do different muscle groups every day over the week.

Got any tips? Let me know ;)

Just giving it a try

Welcome!
I have started working out again, after a leave of absence for.... oh...... maybe 3,5 years? I did dance two years ago, but it wasn't really a workout, hehe. Too slacky ;)
So I figured that I might want to start a workout diary, just to keep track of things! So here we go - if I do it online I think I'll be more consistent with writing here, hehe.
First of all - when writing this I have been working out for a couple of months only, and I just want to be fit right now, be in good shape to do better in my every day life. And so far it's really working out! Here is my progression so far.

First workout:
- My first jog was 20min long, and I was pretty dead at the end, hehe.
- Barely managed 20 pushups on my knees
- My 8-count situp thing was killing me (40 reps)
- My back hurt from doing yoga for 2 min

This is where I'm at right now:
- I jog for 30 min without trouble (was on the treadmill for 45min today, doing a distance of 3.85 miles/6,2km)
- I do 40 pushups on my knees with almost no trouble, or 20 normal and 10 narrow ones
- I do about 120 ab-reps of different kinds without too much trouble
- I do yoga regularly for about 10min without trouble, and I am now starting a yoga class here :)

As you can see, I have already come a long way, at least if you consider that I am not very serious about this, hehe. I try to go for a run 3 times a week, equal amount of workout days doing strength stuff/weight stuff.

My goal? Right now I just want to get good habits, both with working out, eating healthy and getting enough sleep!
So far the sleeping habits are good, but the working out is a little shakey, depending on how much I have to do. I just started trying out a new eating habit, eating very small portions every two hours. I think that will work fine, as long as I manage to eat just a little every time.

So wish me luck! Don't know what this site will turn out to be, but hey, it's just an experiment, hehe.
See ya!

Oh, and here I am:
